Ekka is one of the great family events of the year. What makes Ekka such a wonderful event is its broad appeal with something on for everyone. On the other hand, it can be both pricey and crowded. Below are some of the best tips for getting the most out of your Ekka experience, saving money and maybe even your sanity.
First things first – have a budget!
When it comes to saving money for families, one of the best bits of advice is to have a budget. In fact, give each of your kids a budget. That way it is up to them whether they spend it all on overpriced show bags, rides or dagwood dogs. This lets them learn responsibility as well as avoiding fights about which rides they want to go on and which things to buy.
Most families spend an average of 8 hours at the show, so combine the budget with an entertainment plan to stretch your show budget as far as it can go.
Discounts on tickets
If you buy your tickets online then you will get a 15% discount. Adults tickets are down to $27.20 and kids to $17.85. But group passes are also well worth it, including Adult and Child Pass for $38.25, Family Pass for $75.55 and Family Rider Pass that includes $80 worth of ride tickets for a family of 4 for $140. For $180 you can get an Ultimate Family Value Pack, which includes 4 burger and drinks vouchers.
This year they have introduced a Twilight ticket which lets you in after 6 pm. This ticket is $16 online or at the gate. It is perfect for people looking to head in just for the evening entertainment and the side show. What you do miss out on is all the pavilions and exhibitions which mostly close before 6 pm.
Which show bag is the best
Now that the Ekka is here, it means it’s time for the all-important task of picking show bags! Reviewing the show bag list is always fun, but, with a huge range to choose, from making the final decision can be a little difficult.

Free Entertainment
Once you’ve entered through the gates there are so many free activities at Ekka. This year there are new stages, more than 25 roving street performers, a huge music program, amazing fashion, live dance performances and of course the greatly anticipated night time program.
